Fees

New Patients

All new patients have a set intake cost of $1175. If paid in full by your first visit, this intake cost is reduced to $975 ($200 off.)

We have this schedule set up based on the fact that 75% of our patients are complex cases that require a lot of time to review their unique case and past medical history.

If you wish to break this payment up, the schedule is as follows:

$75 due when booking, $550 due at intake consultation, $550 due at first follow up consultation

This charge is a set fee, and with it you will receive:

  • patient onboarding with our staff

  • access to our secure patient portal

  • record collection and review prior to the first appointment

  • the cost of the first visit (scheduled for 90 minutes with Dr. Jonathan Otten, typically will last between 60-90 minutes depending on the complexity of the case).

  • the cost of the second visit (scheduled for 90 minutes with Dr. Jonathan Otten, typically will last between 60-90 minutes

NOTE: The cost of getting in with our providers does NOT cover any lab testing . Providers will make testing recommendations based on your individual case and history.

New patient consultations require a $75 non-refundable deposit before the requested appointment will be confirmed. This amount will be deducted from the balance of your intake cost.

This is a cash-based practice and all fees are collected at the time of service by credit card or check.
A valid credit card needs to be on file in your portal before all appointments.

Please Note: We understand that the cost of this type of care is often out of reach for many families. If you wish to consult with our providers but cannot keep up with our fee schedule, we can discuss payment plans to help stretch out your payments to make this medicine more attainable for your family. If you wish to discuss payment options, please send a private message with your concerns to staff@northernlightsmedicine.com

Current Patients

Patients who receive ongoing care at our clinic will be seen for routine follow up visits. For general health and wellness, patients are usually seen 1-2 times per year for routine follow up visits, which are billed by provider (see rates below). For chronic and complex illness cases, patients are seen generally every 4-6 weeks, and visits will be categorized as brief (30 minutes or less), or full (30-60 minutes). Follow-up visits that exceed 60 minutes will be billed in additional increments of 15 minutes based on Dr. Otten’s current rate - see below.

Full follow up with Dr. Otten - $360

Brief follow up with Dr. Otten - $180

Additional 15-minutes Dr. Otten - $90

Cancellation policies

We have strict cancellation policies because of the time involved in each case. Our providers have longer visits scheduled, which are required to take the time to give the comprehensive care that we offer here at Northern Lights Medicine.

We request 7 days notice for cancellation of the first two visits with our providers to allow us to fill their schedule.

Any visits that are cancelled with less than 2 business days notice will be charged the full cost of the visit, but you will be able to apply 50% of the cost toward a rescheduled visit.

No-shows and cancellations with less than 24 hours notice will be billed at the full rate of the visit, to compensate our providers for their time set aside for your case. This is non refundable. Please do not wait until the last minute to cancel.

(If an emergency arises, we will have our office manager get in touch with you to discuss options. If you are unwell, we have the option of changing in-person visits to virtual visits if you prefer.)

We do not accept Insurance

Northern Lights Medicine does not accept Insurance. Some of our labs can be billed directly to your insurance. Many patients use the cost of care through our clinic toward their insurance deductible. HSA and FSA accounts can be used for visit costs, labs, and supplements* that are purchased through our clinic.

*Some HSA/FSA accounts require documentation from our providers to be able to purchase supplements

Medicare - opted out

Northern Lights Medicine has opted out of the Medicare program. This means all Medicare patients are responsible for consultation fees and must agree not to submit a claim (or request us to submit a claim) to the Medicare program, even if services are covered by Medicare Part B. All Medicare patients must review and sign the Medicare Private Contract form under the Questionnaire tab in the portal in advance of the initial consultation.

Communication - Portal

Our secure patient portal is the preferred method of communication with our clinic. We provide our secure patient portal for patients to use to upload documents, to request appointment changes, to order supplements, and to connect with your provider. Please use the patient portal for all medical communications. Please do not call and leave detailed medical information on a voicemail, as these are not passed along directly to our providers, and there is always a chance that something may get miscommunicated. (If you are unable to leave a portal message, but need to speak with a provider, this will be set up as a visit with them.)

If you send a message through the portal requesting medical advice, treatment plan adjustments or changes, medication refills (outside of routine visits), or anything that will require a provider to open your chart and make a change or documentation, this will be assigned to the appropriate provider, and will incur a minimum charge of 15-minutes from your provider. Generally, this is preferred for patients who need small changes made, but do not need to have an actual discussion with the provider. If the provider needs to discuss any part of the message with you, we will arrange a time for a phone or virtual follow up with them to address your request.

Please do not send requests to our clinic via email.
